Additional Notes
The legacies of colonialism surround us: shaping persistent social inequality and debate across New Zealand's parliament, media and homes. By framing colonisation as part of a larger global process, Web of Empire breaks from previous histories to offer new pathways into our colonial history and, perhaps, our shared future. Empire building is revealed as a spreading web of horizontal connections - links of cultural and economic exchange - networking local centres across New Zealand, Australia, Asia, Europe and Africa in ways previously hidden from view. Underpinned by deep archival research, this groundbreaking collection shows why Tony Ballantyne is one of the most influential historians working in New Zealand today.
